Limewash paint - anti-mould
Reference: 8888
Lime paint or Limewash paint is available in over 180 colours.
Galtane Limewash paint is used in heritage restoration, new build, renovation,... to make interiors healthier.
What are the benefits of limewash paint?
- Limewash paint offers extraordinary technical and aesthetic solutions.
- It guarantees a healthy atmosphere. Galtane natural limewash paint contains no preservatives such as methylisothiazolinone (MIT/BIT).
- This traditional technique is ideal for damp rooms, as it does not hinder the diffusion of water vapour, preventing the formation of mould and making rooms healthier.
Type of finishing :
Type of finish: Lime paint has an extra matt finish with effects. It is very luminous and has a rough texture with small, sparse grains. It is highly breathable. It reflects light very well, so its colours change with the light. Lime paint is characterised by different shading effects and does not necessarily have a uniform finish.
Colour chart: Specific ‘’Lime paint‘’ colour chart available at points of sale and on the colour simulator at www.galtane.com. Possibility of using powder or Galtane paste pigments. As lime paint is a living material, the final result may differ from the colours shown on the colour chart.
The type of substrate, the number of coats, the light (intensity and wavelength differences), the tools used, the method of application, the surrounding colours and the presence or absence of a primer will all influence the shade and the degree of gloss in relation to the colour chart. In view of these parameters and the complexity of colours, it is advisable, in the case of very rigorous requirements, to carry out a two-coat test in situ in order to assess the final colour.
For example, a water green or a blue off-white will sometimes be more green, sometimes more blue. These are what we call colours with a high metamerism. Let's be aware of this.
It is impossible to certify 100% accuracy of a colour from the colour chart on the final substrate.

Preparing the substrate :
8320) Galtane.

Galtane interior and exterior lime paint is a white anti-mould air lime paint which, thanks to a fine dispersion of marble and lime powder, offers an extraordinary whiteness.
Natural lime paint is no more expensive than water-based synthetic paint. Galtane lime paint is often cheaper than synthetic paint.
Lime paint prevents the formation of mould in houses and helps to maintain good indoor air quality.
Lime paint is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, air-purifying, hygienic, CO2 absorbent and absorbs nitrogen gases.
The Galtane lime paint contains no synthetic resins or titanium white. It is the ideal paint for damp rooms, because it does not hinder the diffusion of water vapour. Lime paint is characterised by different shading effects and does not necessarily have a uniform finish. The paint hardens by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air: the lime is transformed back into limestone (carbonation). Galtane lime paint is highly reflective.
Use: Suitable surfaces are untreated mineral render (lime, cement, clay), porous stone, brick and Prime Syl 12 or Granulo Syl mineral primer, which is applied over old paint. Lime paint adheres best to fresh rendering. Do not apply to wallpaper, smooth concrete, dispersion paints based on natural oils and resins, or lacquers. Galtane lime paint can be applied on a trial basis to old, matt, absorbent synthetic paints that have been cleaned beforehand. Old glue-based paints must be completely washed off before working with limewash. See also the technical data sheet: "How to remove wallpapering adhesive residues".
New: after several years of positive testing, Galtane Lime paint can now be applied outdoors. (see details in application).
What is the origin of lime?
Lime or calcium oxide is very common in nature. Combined with carbonic acid, it forms calcium carbonate, the basis of all limestone. Pure lime is white, powdery, hot and caustic. Lime combines with water, releasing a high heat (around 300°C); it then increases considerably in volume: it is said to swell. The result is hydrated lime. Mixed with a larger proportion of water, we obtain Galtane Lime Paint.
Considered from the hygrometric point of view, i.e. its greater or lesser affinity for water, lime is divided into several varieties: air lime and hydraulic lime, depending on whether they set or harden in air or in water.
Hydraulic limes hardly swell at all when they are slaked, and they do not give off heat during the slaking process. They are generally thin, very rarely medium and never fat.
Stucco, derived from the Italian stucco, means a plaster suitable for butchering. Stucco is a composition that imitates marble and is made with slaked lime and white marble powder. The use of stucco in construction dates back to ancient times. The Romans used stucco to cover brick walls. Stucco isn't just used to imitate white marble; by mixing it with mineral pigments, it's possible to imitate coloured marble, which is what Archikal 900 offers you.
