Colourless, HM16 cares for the wood and is ideal for parquet floors (oak, chestnut) and for ennobling and restoring old furniture. HM16 contains no insecticides or biocides. Galtane HM16 is ready to use and can be kept for 24 months! It poses no risk to pregnant women, infants, allergy sufferers or the sick... Wood-Boring Insects: What Kind of Bugs Live in Wood?

Wood-eating insects find the nutrients they need to live in wood by breaking down cellulose, lignin and starch. At this stage, the insect is only a wood-eating larva. This larva will live in the wood for 1 to 5 years, or even 10 years. It then metamorphoses into an adult insect, emerges from the wood through a flight hole and no longer feeds, but reproduces by laying eggs (40 to 100) in the cracks in the wood. The adult insect only lives for around 20 days. Most of the insects found in timber belong to the Coleoptera order (beetles, capricorn beetles) or the Isoptera order (termites). In wood, the capricorn beetle (Hylotrupes bajulus) forms flight holes of +/- 0.5 cm, while the furniture beetle forms flight holes of 1 to 2 mm.

The merula fungus, wood-destroying fungi: causes and solutions

Wood attacked by Serpula lacrymans, commonly known as a wood-eating fungus or house weeping fungus, poses a significant risk of structural deterioration. This fungus is one of the most destructive when it comes to decomposing wood in buildings. Merola is a wood fungus that feeds on water, minerals and organic matter such as wood. If the wood is damp, the woodworm (Serpula lacrymans) will penetrate it and acidify it. Through enzymatic action, the woodworm will decompose the wood and feed on it.
